Draga Obradovic & Aurel K. Basedow
Draga Obradovic Atelier studio is a part of a building from the beginning of 19th century, originally built as a textile mill. Attracted by its rich history, Draga e Aurel wanted to create a space where they can feel like they’re at home, but also to show their work.
Draga Obradovic moved to Florence, Italy, in 1984 to pursue a degree in painting from Accademia di Belle Arti. She began her work in fashion, first as a model and later as a fashion designer for women’s collections where she discovered her interest in textile design. From 1989 to 2005 she refined her own unique painting techniques for fabrics. This led her to create a new collection where colours, styles and textiles combined, and a harmonious mix of past and present emerged. In 2006 Draga designed her first unique furniture collection using pieces of fabric from different time periods and styles.
In 1986, Aurel Basedow attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence to pursue his passion for painting. His realism and figurative drawings quickly gave away to abstract paintings by using broad brushstrokes and colours inspired by Flemish art. Over the years the emphasis focused more on Aurel’s spiritual growth as he developed a more contemplative style of working on large surfaces and engaged himself in materic painting and meditative arts. In 1991 he pursued a degree in the graphic arts at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan.
